Belgrade Waterfront showcased at Expo 2020 Dubai as the best practice example

Zorana Burlić, General Manager of Belgrade Waterfront-a, said that this project is one of the largest foreign investments in Serbia, which started the local construction and all related industries. The Government of Serbia has selected Belgrade Waterfront to be showcased at Expo 2020 Dubai as the best practice example when it comes to the partnership of a foreign strategic partner with national and local authorities. Its implementation had a positive impact on the development of the whole Belgrade, and the project was presented within the “Urban and Rural Development Week”.

In addition to bringing yet unseen concept of housing to this geographic area, as well as numerous cultural, sports and leisure facilities, Belgrade Waterfront raises the quality of living in the whole city. Citizens and guests of the city get a proper access to the Sava riverbank, new streets with accompanying infrastructure and greenery in a place that used to be inaccessible and neglected.

The abolition of railway traffic in the central city zone, the relocation of the railway and bus station to a traffic-acceptable location, as well as the construction of a new railway system, relieved the traffic flow in the city centre. This created the conditions for the construction of the Line Park, and at the same time there was a significant ecological improvement in the central city zone, in which the share of heavy freight traffic was drastically reduced. By raising the height of the embankment along the Belgrade Waterfront, the level of flood protection was also raised.

“By the end of this year, Belgrade Waterfront will have seven completed residential buildings with a total of 1,500 apartments. One year after it was opened, Galerija has shown with its offer and number of visitors why it is the most important shopping and entertainment destination in the region. Kula Belgrade, the future city landmark, that fellow citizens and residents of Serbia will be proud of, will be completed next year”, said Zorana Burlic addressing the participants of the Investment Conference dedicated to potential for investment in the real estate sector, the first of its kind within the programme of presenting Serbia at Expo 2020 Dubai.

Expo 2020 Dubai is the most important international event this year, with the participation of more than 190 countries. Over the six months, the manifestation is expected to be visited by 25 million people. The topic of Serbia’s participation on Expo is “Serbia Creates Ideas – Inspired by the Past, Shaping the Future”. The exhibition of our pavilion shows that modern Serbia is a natural heir of an exceptional artistic and trade talent, innovation that changed the course of the entire civilisation, and that Serbia of the future is best represented by creative ideas of a number of talented, exciting and inventive individuals, companies and organizations.
