My first visit to Belgrade: Magic by the river

I have always dreamed of visiting Belgrade. Many of my friends had already been to Serbia’s capital and returned to Turkey full of impressions, enchanted by the atmosphere, hospitality, architecture, and the vibrant life that pulses 24/7. As soon as I had the chance to travel to Serbia, I came with my husband and two children. We headed straight to Belgrade Waterfront, because our friends recommended this destination as the best, and rightly so.

The magic of an evening at Belgrade Waterfront

Our first encounter with this modern part of the city was in the evening. People were leisurely strolling along the Sava Promenada; some were jogging, others riding bicycles, while children rode scooters or played in nearby playgrounds.

On one side, the river reflected the city lights; on the other, beautiful restaurants with impeccably arranged terraces invited us to indulge. Additional magic is created by street musicians, whose notes stretch along the promenade. The evening at Belgrade Waterfront felt like a dream – a place where relaxed atmosphere, rich culture, and the irresistible charm of a Balkan metropolis intertwine.

A break for the whole family

Since we reserved the next day exclusively for rest and relaxation, we spent most of our time in Sava Park. The children played on modern playgrounds while we enjoyed the shade of trees and a quietness rarely found in Istanbul. At one moment, I sat on a bench and realized – here, one can breathe, relax, and feel a perfect balance between urban life and nature.
Unforgettable flavors and scents of Belgrade
As a true foodie, I couldn’t resist the rich gastronomic offerings. We tried Serbian barbecue, fantastic Italian specialties, and Asian cuisine at a restaurant overlooking the sunset. Every meal was an experience of its own, and the kindness of the staff reminded me of traditional Turkish hospitality.

On the last evening before our departure, we sat on the terrace of a beautiful open-air restaurant, enjoying a superb rosé perfectly paired with a light Mediterranean salad. Here, on the riverbank, every sip and every smile carry a special magic. The children delighted in ice cream and juices, but most of all in the fresh air and carefree environment where they could play freely.

Galerija – the best shopping experience

My husband wasn’t too thrilled about the idea of going to a shopping mall — until he stepped into Galerija. Spacious and elegant, with well-known brands as well as interesting local shops that pleasantly surprised us all, Galerija offered not only the best shopping experience but a comprehensive family leisure outing.

The kids enjoyed the cinema, I found a few beautiful things for myself, and together we had lunch with a view of the river. Simply put, Galerija is a place that combines comfort and variety, perfect for any family outing.

Kula Belgrade and moments to remember

Kula Belgrade completely captivated me – tall, modern, and elegant, it rises above the river as a contemporary symbol of the city. Its impressive silhouette dominates the skyline and clearly shows how much Belgrade is changing, yet staying true to itself. Below it, along the river, there is an interesting pedestrian bridge that seems to float above the water. Partly made of glass, it gives the feeling of walking above the Sava. It’s perfect for taking photos, as well as a short stroll to enjoy breathtaking views.

If your journey brings you to Belgrade, don’t miss visiting the most modern part of the city – Belgrade Waterfront. For me and my family, it was a place where we laughed, relaxed, enjoyed the little things, and created memories we will carry forever. One thing is certain – Serbia, its capital, and especially Belgrade Waterfront, have become our must-visit destination and a place to which we will always come back.
