Exhibition “Premeditated Birth”

Exhibition “Premeditated Birth”

The exhibition “Premeditated birth” by the artist Stefan Stevanović will be opened on Wednesday, August 3, starting at 8:00 PM in the KvArt BW exhibition space, on the second floor of Galerija.

“Premeditated Birth” is the sixth in a series of exhibitions of the “Perspective 22” curatorial project, which presents a selection by art historian Ana Kršljanin and is a continuation of the annual exhibition program of the Galerija ŠTAB and KvArt BW.

Art historian Smiljka Čabraja says that visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to see figurative representations that are somewhere between human and animal.

“The author is inspired by an expressionist understanding of the image, with strong black contours and unadorned motifs, however, in his work, there is also a surrealist trace of otherworldly apparitions lurking somewhere in the background of our mind and ego burdened with control.” Stefan Stevanović’s paintings present dark, grotesque creatures to a man who is trained by social norms that tend to restrain him and rein in the unpredictable animal in him. Bizarre creatures in Stevanović’s paintings do not address what the viewer wants to show, but what he hides,” concludes Smiljka Čabraja in the text of the exhibition catalog.

Stefan Stevanović was born in 1994. He graduated from the painting department at the Faculty of Arts in Kosovska Mitrovica, while he completed his master’s degree in painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade. He was awarded six times for his artistic work and was a participant in numerous art projects.

The “Premeditated Birth” exhibition is organized by the ŠTAB Galerija and the art initiative KvArt BW. The exhibition will be open until August 15, 2022, and the working hours of the KvArt BW Galerija are every day from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The entrance to the exhibition is free.
