EXHIBITION “INSIGNIA”

EXHIBITION “INSIGNIA”

The first solo exhibition of the multi-awarded final-year student of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Ana Simic, will be opened on Tuesday, August 29, at 8 PM in the KvArt BW exhibition space, on the second floor at Galerija.

The series of works entitled “Insignia” was inspired by Serbian graphics of the 18th century and medieval costumes worn by rulers and nobles. Through her work, the young artist explores the vulnerability, beauty, and imperfection of women. The technique with which she expresses herself is based on the use of quill and ink, which enables her to be precise and detailed in the realization of drawings on cotton canvas.

“The artist thoughtfully pays tribute to women of all eras – mothers, rulers, wives, mermaids, and witches – pulling them out of the shadow of men, even though insignia, as marks of high social position or reputation, are generally automatically associated with men, most often rulers”, stated Bojana Jovanovic, art historian.

Ana Simic was born in 2001 and is a student at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, Department of Painting. In addition to painting, she works with screen printing, animation, and collage. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions and has received multiple awards for her work.

By organizing the exhibition “Insignia”, the Art Initiative KvArt BW and Galerija ŠTAB continue with their support to young and talented artists. The exhibition will be open until Saturday, September 9, and KvArt BW gallery is open daily from 11 AM to 7 PM. Entrance to the exhibition is free.
