Belgrade Waterfront Breaks Ground On BW Galerija

Following the successful completion of piling works, Belgrade Waterfront today announced the official start of structural works on BW Galerija, which represents the biggest shopping and lifestyle destination in Serbia and the region.

The structural works contract was awarded to Gradina during a groundbreaking event and signing ceremony held onsite. Defined by world-class brands and unique architectural concept and design, BW Galerija is set to provide visitors with a sense of openness and connection with the natural surroundings of the city.

Nikola Nedeljković, General Manager of Belgrade Waterfront, said: “As seen in all other project components within Belgrade Waterfront, piling works on BW Galerija have been completed in line with the highest industry standards. Upon completion, BW Galerija will bring a first of a kind shopping and lifestyle experience to our city, presenting yet another key component in the creation of Belgrade Waterfront as a new urban centre. BW Galerija represents a unique shopping experience that creates an outdoor feeling, indoors.”

BW Galerija, one of the central pillars of the Belgrade Waterfront project, features a total gross building area of over 300,000 sqm, with an above-ground area of 143,000 sqm reserved for retail, including 93,000 sqm of leasable space with a rich retail offering. In addition to the ultimate shopping experience, visitors will be able to enjoy modern cinemas, restaurants and cafes with an outdoor riverfront seating terrace.

Djuro Djurdjevic, Contractor, Gradina, said: “We are delighted to be awarded the structural works contract for BW Galerija and given a great responsibility to work on a project of that size and significance. We are committed to the project timeline, and construction works will be implemented in accordance with the highest quality and safety standards in every step of the project. Our long-standing expertise and knowledge will play a major role in creating this architecturally inspiring building, which represents a central part of the Belgrade Waterfront project.”

BW Galerija, designed by RTKL, one of the largest multidisciplinary design companies, is projected to seamlessly integrate and extend the spirit and fabric of the Belgrade streets into and through the building. To achieve this, a series of streets with different characteristics will define the distinct zones within the Galerija – Lux Street featuring classic and luxury brands, High Street, defined by modern and chic selection of brands, and Arcade and Laneways, for informal style lovers. The wide skylights that stretch above all main streets and squares will create a sense of openness and enhance the feeling of connectedness with the surrounding urban area and the river.

BW Galerija will also provide visitors access to the spectacular view from atop Kula Belgrade through a pedestrian footbridge at the second level. Furthermore, the shopping centre will also feature a large parking area connected to all main roads with 3,700 parking spaces.

The opening of the BW Galerija is scheduled for 2020, when the first phase of the Belgrade Waterfront project will be completed. The first phase will also include residential buildings BW Residences, BW Vista and BW Parkview, as well as The St. Regis Belgrade, located in Kula Belgrade.
